For the first time ever, it was an all-India final at the Singapore Open, a badminton tournament where the world’s best players compete. Kidambi Srikanth and Sai Praneeth found themselves playing the final, which was won by Praneeth in three games. The Singapore Open is a Superseries tournament, which means it is a high-ranked and important event.
The win marks the first time that Praneeth has made it beyond the quarter-final stage of a Superseries tournament. He has now become only the fourth Indian to win a Superseries title-the others are Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth. With this win, the 24 year old player has made his presence felt at a global scale.
The last Indian to win the Singapore Superseries was Saina Nehwal in 2010.
